Although we are known as the land of forests, concrete seems to be the most common build‍‍‍ing material in Estonia today. The reason for this is probably coal mining and the rise of city life. There was the fist cooperative in Soviet Estonia called Desintegraator and its founder, scientist Johannes Hint who greatly contributed to this industry, inventing and producing Laprex, the king of stones :) As coal mining is still one of the biggest industries in Estonia, one of its side products coal dust has been used to make a certain type of building blocks by company in North-Estonia called Bauroc.
